Frank Lloyd Wright's Kentuck Knob
A 1956 Usonian hilltop home by Frank Lloyd Wright built of native stone and tidewater cypress, just minutes from Fallingwater. The grounds host a notable sculpture meadow with works by Andy Goldsworthy, Anthony Caro, and a section of the Berlin Wall.
Flight 93 National Memorial
A moving National Park Service memorial honoring the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. Visit the Visitor Center and Museum, the Wall of Names along the flight path, and the Tower of Voices with its 40 wind chimes.
Laurel Caverns
Pennsylvania's largest cave, a sprawling underground sandstone maze with over four miles of passages on Chestnut Ridge. Choose a 50-minute lighted guided tour or more adventurous spelunking and rappelling options; the cave stays a cool 52 degrees year-round.
Fort Necessity National Battlefield
The site of George Washington's only military surrender, opening battle of the French and Indian War in 1754. This National Park Service site features a reconstructed circular stockade, a visitor center with exhibits and a film, and trails including Braddock's Grave.
Fort Ligonier
A meticulously reconstructed 1758 British fort from the French and Indian War, paired with a museum holding one of the most complete collections of war-era artifacts, including a pair of George Washington's saddle pistols. Walk the bastions, barracks, and earthworks.
Compass Inn Museum
An authentically restored 1799 stagecoach inn and tavern on the old Philadelphia-Pittsburgh Turnpike, run by the Ligonier Valley Historical Society. Costumed docents in 1830s period dress lead tours of the original inn, a cookhouse, blacksmith shop, and a barn with an authentic Conestoga-era stagecoach.
Bushy Run Battlefield
The preserved site of the pivotal August 1763 battle of Pontiac's War, where a British column defeated a Native American force in a two-day fight. A visitor center exhibit, 'The March to Bushy Run,' interprets the battle, with self-guided and guided trails across the wooded grounds.
Idlewild & SoakZone
One of America's oldest amusement parks (since 1878), repeatedly named best kids' park in the world. Combines gentle rides, the Storybook Forest and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Trolley ride, and a full SoakZone water park, all set in a wooded Ligonier Valley grove.
Ohiopyle State Park
A 20,500-acre state park surrounding the Youghiogheny River Gorge, the crown jewel of Laurel Highlands outdoor recreation. Hiking, waterfalls, biking, rafting, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater are all nearby.
Youghiogheny River Whitewater Rafting (Lower Yough)
The Lower Yough is a 7.5-mile run of Class III-IV rapids below Ohiopyle Falls, one of the most popular whitewater stretches in the eastern US. Licensed outfitters in Ohiopyle (Wilderness Voyageurs, Laurel Highlands River Tours, White Water Adventurers, Ohiopyle Trading Post) provide guides, rafts, and shuttles. A gentler Middle Yough (Class I-II) runs from Ramcat near Confluence for families and beginners.
Cucumber Falls
A scenic 30-plus-foot bridal-veil waterfall in Ohiopyle State Park reached by a short 0.2-mile path from the parking area, with a viewing spot where you can walk behind the falls. Connects to the Great Gorge Trail for a longer hike.
Ohiopyle Falls
A 20-foot waterfall spanning the full width of the Youghiogheny River in the center of Ohiopyle, viewable from accessible platforms at the park's Falls Area visitor center. The launch point for Lower Yough rafting trips.
Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) Bike Trail - Ohiopyle to Confluence
The Confluence-to-Ohiopyle section is the most popular 11-mile stretch of the 150-mile GAP rail-trail, a flat crushed-limestone path with a gentle 2% grade paralleling the Youghiogheny River. Bike rentals and shuttles are available in Ohiopyle. The full GAP runs from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, MD.
Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail
A 70-mile ridge-top backpacking and day-hiking trail running the length of Laurel Ridge from Ohiopyle north to near Johnstown, with eight Adirondack-style shelter areas. The trail passes through the slopes just west of Seven Springs and crosses PA Route 31 nearby, making for easy day-hike access.
Kooser State Park
A compact 250-acre park at 2,600 feet elevation, one of the closest state parks to Seven Springs. Offers a small lake, easy family trails including a Scenic Creek loop, picnicking, and a connection to the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail.
Laurel Hill State Park
A 4,000-plus-acre park built around the 63-acre Laurel Hill Lake, featuring a 1,200-foot sand swimming beach (open late May to Labor Day), about 15 miles of trails through old-growth hemlock, boating, and camping. Reached via PA Route 31 and Trent Road.
Laurel Ridge State Park
A 13,000-plus-acre linear park straddling Laurel Ridge that protects the corridor of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. In summer it offers hiking and the northern trail terminus near Seward; in winter it hosts the region's premier cross-country ski center.
Laurel Ridge Cross Country Ski Center
A winter Nordic center in Laurel Ridge State Park grooming about 30 km of cross-country ski and snowshoe trails on one of the region's highest ridges. Rentals available; open Friday-Monday 9-5 in season (snow permitting). Located at 1101 Jim Mountain Road, Rockwood.
Laurel Summit State Park & Spruce Flats Bog
A tiny 6-acre picnic area at 2,739 feet that serves as a trailhead into Forbes State Forest. A flat 5-minute gravel path leads to Spruce Flats Bog, a unique 28-acre high-elevation bog with carnivorous pitcher plants and sundews. Also the trailhead for the rugged Wolf Rocks loop.
Wolf Rocks Overlook Trail
A roughly 5-mile loop from Laurel Summit through Forbes State Forest to a dramatic boulder overlook with sweeping views of the Linn Run valley and Laurel Highlands. Relatively flat but rocky underfoot, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Laurel Mountain Ski Resort
A historic downhill ski area within Laurel Mountain State Park, operated by Vail Resorts and on the Epic Pass. Home to 'Lower Wildcat,' one of the steepest slopes in Pennsylvania, with 20 trails, 2 lifts, and a 761-foot vertical drop. A lower-key alternative to Seven Springs.
Laurel Hill Creek Fly Fishing
A premier Laurel Highlands trout stream and PA Select Stream stocked with 14-19 inch trout, plus wild brook trout. The DHALO (delayed-harvest) section is accessed via the Hemlock Trail from Laurel Hill Lake. Best fished in spring for excellent caddis, stonefly, and mayfly hatches; summer water gets too warm. PA fishing license and trout permit required.
Indian Creek Fly Fishing
A scenic trout stream with a 1.6-mile DHALO (Delayed Harvest Artificial Lures Only) section from Hunters Lane down toward Route 31, paralleled by the Blair Brothers Trail. Headwaters and tributaries hold Class A wild trout. Streamers and Woolly Buggers work well in early spring. PA fishing license and trout permit required.
Forbes State Forest
A 60,000-plus-acre state forest blanketing the Laurel Ridge around Seven Springs, with extensive trails for hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and seasonal cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Includes the Roaring Run Natural Area and connects many of the region's state parks.
Helen's Restaurant
Seven Springs' upscale on-site dining option, set in the resort's historic original homestead with a rustic atmosphere and chef-driven American cuisine. The nicest sit-down meal you can have without leaving the resort.
Slopeside Restaurant
