Most people skip this stretch, and it may be the best part of the winter. Seven Springs opened the first weekend of December in each of the last two seasons, and this year’s projected opening is December 5, so by the 11th the mountain should be into its first full week, weather permitting. Ligonier, Somerset and Greensburg are lit up for the season, and the holiday-week crowds are still two weeks off.
That weekend, within an easy drive
- Fri–Sun: Overly’s Country Christmas is open all three nights (about 50 min)
- Fri Dec 11: Winter Nights at The Westmoreland museum in Greensburg, 5–8 p.m.
- Sat Dec 12: The Nutcracker with the Westmoreland Symphony at Greensburg’s Palace Theatre
- Sat–Sun Dec 12–13: Compass Inn Museum’s candlelit Yuletide tours, 4–8 p.m. (about 40 min)
