Halloween lands on a Saturday — the whole weekend is the party

Fri Oct 30
Haunted Hollow (box office 6:30–10:30 PM) and Crawford School of Terror (7–11 PM) are both open — pick your arrival-night fright.
Sat Oct 31
HallowBOO!’s final day at Idlewild (11 AM–6 PM), the corn maze’s last day on Route 711, Ligonier trick-or-treat from 5 PM — and, for the 21+ crew, the masquerade dinner and cocktail crawl at the resort. Haunted Hollow’s last night of the season.
Sun Nov 1
Slow breakfast, a long soak in the hot tub, and the drive home. Fallingwater is open Sundays if you want one more stop.

The weekend after · Fri Nov 6 – Sun Nov 8

Missed Halloween? The scares run one more weekend

The first weekend of November is the quiet one: the crowds have gone home, the late-fall woods are wide open, and Crawford School of Terror still has two nights left.

Fri Nov 6
Lights Out Night at Crawford School of Terror in Connellsville — the same three floors, with the lights out.
Sat Nov 7
Compass Inn’s Bonfire Celebration in Laughlintown (3:30–9 PM), then Crawford’s season finale — Over 18 Night.
Sun Nov 8
Nowhere to be. Hot tub, leftovers, and a slow drive home.

Pick your scare level

Something for every age in the house

A group of sixteen is rarely one kind of Halloween. Here is how we would split the weekend — the little ones, the teenagers who want to be scared, and the grown-ups who want a night out — with every pick checked against this year’s published dates.

Little goblins

Costumes on, candy bags out, nobody needs a nightlight afterward.

Two-story vaulted living area with wet bar

Halloween at the house

The best part of the night might be the one you spend in

Some of the best Halloween traditions here never leave the driveway. Carve pumpkins on the deck in the afternoon, run a costume swap out of the bunk loft, set the great room up for a horror-movie marathon on the big screens, and finish with the hot tub under a cold, clear late-October sky. Three bedrooms, a den and the bunk loft mean nobody draws the short straw on sleeping arrangements — and 3 full and 2 half baths mean the face-paint queue moves.

One honest note: the house is for the group on your reservation. Costume night, a movie marathon and a long game night are all on; a Halloween party with outside guests is not something to plan without asking us first. Mt. Villas is a neighborhood of homes, so keep the deck considerate in the evenings.

  • Multiple big-screen TVs and an Xbox in the loft — horror marathon for the adults, something gentler upstairs
  • Full kitchen and a wet bar for the chili, the cider and the candy-bowl refills
  • Private hot tub on the deck, open year-round — the best seat in the house on a cold night
  • Sleeps 16+ across 3 bedrooms, a den and a bunk loft that sleeps six
Kids' bunk loft sleeps the whole crew
Private hot tub bubbling under the trees on the back deck

Good to know

Halloween near Seven Springs, answered

What Halloween events are near Seven Springs?+

More than you would expect for a mountain town. For young kids, Idlewild’s HallowBOO! in Ligonier runs weekends from mid-September through Halloween with a trick-or-treat trail, and Chad’s Corn Maze on Route 711 is open daily through October 31. For the brave, Haunted Hollow in Rockwood (about 30 minutes) runs Friday and Saturday nights in October, and Crawford School of Terror in Connellsville (about 45 minutes) runs Fridays and Saturdays into early November. At the resort itself, Seven Springs hosts a 21+ Halloween night — in 2026, a masquerade dinner at Helen’s and a cocktail crawl through the Main Lodge on Saturday, October 31.

Is Idlewild open for Halloween?+

Yes. Idlewild’s HallowBOO! runs Saturdays and Sundays from mid-September through October 31. In 2026 the final day is Saturday, October 31 (the park is closed Friday, October 30), with gates open 11 AM–6 PM and last entry to the Story Book Forest trick-or-treat trail at 5:30 PM. The trail is included with admission for kids 12 and under, costume parades run at 3:30 PM through the 31st, and Idlewild describes the event as family-friendly with no intense scare attractions. Dated tickets bought online are the cheapest way in.

When is trick-or-treat in Ligonier and Somerset County in 2026?+

Ligonier Borough trick-or-treats on Saturday, October 31: merchants from 5 to 6 PM, then neighborhoods from 6 to 8 PM. In Somerset County each town sets its own night — Windber is Saturday, October 31, 6 to 8 PM, while Berlin (parade at 6 PM) and Conemaugh Township go early, on Thursday, October 29. If you are visiting a specific town, check its borough or township page for the final word.

Is Haunted Hollow too scary for kids?+

It is a dark, interactive haunt, and its own guidance is that it suits kids over about six depending on the child — parents make the call. The monsters do not touch guests. Expect an hour or more to get through all four attractions and two to three hours with the bonfires and food, and expect longer lines on the last two weekends of October; Friday nights usually move faster than Saturdays. The box office takes cash only (there is an ATM on site), or buy online ahead.

Does Seven Springs do anything for Halloween?+

Yes, mostly for the 21+ crowd. In 2026 the resort held a costume-contest Halloween party at the Foggy Goggle on Saturday, October 24 (advance tickets only), and on Halloween night it runs a five-course masquerade dinner with wine pairings at Helen’s (reception at 5 PM, reservations required) and a self-guided Halloween Cocktail Crawl through the Main Lodge from 6 to 9 PM, ending with a DJ at the Foggy Goggle until 1 AM. The Main Lodge is on the free resort shuttle from the house — check the evening shuttle times, or pick a designated driver.

Can we throw a Halloween party at the house?+

The house is set up for the group on your reservation, and that is who Halloween at the house is for — costume night, a horror-movie marathon on the big screens, pumpkin carving on the deck and the hot tub after dark are all fair game. For anything beyond your registered guests, message us before you book. Mt. Villas is a neighborhood of homes, so please keep evening noise on the deck considerate.

Is there still fall color at Halloween?+

Some — it is the tail of the season, not the peak. Peak color in the Laurel Highlands usually lands in early-to-mid October. For the week of October 22–28, 2026, the state’s foliage report listed Somerset, Westmoreland and Fayette counties as “still nice but declining,” and pointed visitors to the oak forests, which turn yellow, golden brown, amber and burgundy late in the season.

What is there to do the weekend after Halloween?+

In 2026, Crawford School of Terror runs one more weekend — Lights Out Night on Friday, November 6 and Over 18 Night on Saturday, November 7 — and the Compass Inn Museum in Laughlintown holds its Bonfire Celebration on Saturday, November 7 from 3:30 to 9 PM. Fallingwater is open through late November (closed Wednesdays). Between the end of fall color and the start of ski season it is a quiet weekend on the mountain — which is exactly the appeal.
