Drive times
How long it takes from your city
Distances and times are to Mountain Haven at Mt. Villas, from each city’s center, on the fastest route in typical conditions. The resort itself describes Pittsburgh as about an hour away; door to door from downtown, our routing check comes out closer to an hour and a half. Most of the difference is the slow climb at the end.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike
Exit 91 or Exit 110: it depends which way you’re coming
Seven Springs publishes directions from two Turnpike exits. West of the mountain, use Donegal. East of it, use Somerset. Both finish on County Line Road.
From Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus and the west
Turnpike Exit 91 (Donegal)
- 1Turn left off the exit ramp onto Routes 711/31.
- 2In about two miles, turn right to stay on Route 711.
- 3Follow 711 about two miles to Champion and turn left at the Star Market.
- 4Follow the Seven Springs signs about eight miles up County Line Road. Mt. Villas is on the resort property.
About 11 miles and 25 minutes from the exit ramp to the house.
From Philadelphia, Harrisburg, DC, Baltimore and the east
Turnpike Exit 110 (Somerset)
- 1Turn right off the exit ramp at the second light, then right at the third light onto Route 31 West.
- 2Follow Route 31 West about seven miles and turn left at Pioneer Park.
- 3Go about four miles; at the first stop sign, turn right.
- 4The resort is about five miles ahead on the left. Mt. Villas is on the resort property.
About 17 miles and 35 minutes from the exit to the house.
In winter, stay on County Line Road (don’t turn onto Triple Creek Road), and skip Pritts Distillery Road, which the resort notes doesn’t get winter maintenance.
Tolls
Tolls: there are no cash booths
- The PA Turnpike tolls electronically. With E-ZPass you pay as you go; without it, Toll By Plate cameras read your plate and the registered owner gets an invoice about 40 days later.
- E-ZPass saves nearly 50% compared with Toll By Plate rates.
- Driving a rental? Ask at the counter how the company bills Turnpike tolls before you leave the lot.
About your phone’s route
From DC and Baltimore, navigation apps may send you west on I-68 and up US 219 instead, finishing on small back roads. Our routing check put that within a minute or two of the Turnpike route, so in winter, take the Turnpike and the resort’s directions from Exit 110.
Coming up from Morgantown, you skip the Turnpike entirely and arrive on PA 711 from the south.
The last eight miles
The last eight miles climb about 1,000 feet
Champion sits near 1,500 feet; the house is near 2,500. That climb up County Line Road is where winter happens. You can leave a wet, bare Turnpike and find snow on the road halfway up, because the ridge gets far more snow than the valley towns below it.
The climb
- Champion (the turn at the Star Market)~1,485 ft
- Mountain Haven, Mt. Villas~2,510 ft
Snow climbs with it
- Confluence (1,490 ft)61 in. a year
- Somerset (2,100 ft)96 in. a year
- Laurel Summit (2,730 ft)142 in. a year
Average annual snowfall, NOAA 1991–2020 normals. The more of the ridge you climb, the more snow there is.
AWD, 4WD & tires
Do you need 4-wheel drive? Honestly, tires matter more
There’s no 4WD requirement, and the resort’s routes keep you on the main roads. But during and right after a storm, traction is what gets you up the hill. Consumer Reports’ testing is a useful gut check: all-wheel and four-wheel drive help you get moving, but neither helps you stop, while winter tires help you turn and brake. AWD or 4WD on good tires is the easy way up in a storm. In a front-wheel-drive car on all-seasons, let the plows go first.
Live road info
511PA is the app to have open
PennDOT’s 511PA shows live road conditions (snow-covered, slush, icy), traffic cameras, Track My Plow plow-truck reports, and any weather-based speed or vehicle restrictions on the highways. It has a phone app, too.
Snowing on arrival day?
A six-step plan for a snowy check-in
Snow on arrival day is part of a winter trip up here. A little planning keeps it a good story instead of a long one.
- 1
Check two things before you leave
The National Weather Service forecast for the house (it shows any winter alerts) and 511PA for the roads between you and the Turnpike exit.
- 2
Aim to do the climb in daylight
The last half hour is the slow part. If a storm is timed for the evening, leaving a couple of hours early beats driving County Line Road in the dark.
- 3
Or wait it out at the bottom
If it’s coming down hard and you’re on all-season tires, give the plows a head start. Donegal, at Exit 91, has a Sheetz and a couple of places to eat. Check-in is self-serve, so there’s no front desk to beat.
- 4
Stick to the resort’s route
Stay on the main roads in the directions above. From the east, stay on County Line Road and skip Pritts Distillery Road, which doesn’t get winter maintenance.
- 5
Fuel up before the climb
PennDOT’s advice is to keep the tank at least half full in winter. On the western approach, the Sheetz by the Donegal interchange is right off the exit.
- 6
Then park it
Once you’re here, the free resort shuttle stops at Mt. Villas and does the driving to the slopes, so the car can stay put until the roads clear.
PennDOT’s emergency travel kit
Eleven things to keep in the car
- Warm clothing and gloves
- Blanket
- Ice scraper
- Sand
- Cellphone and car charger
- Flashlight
- Jumper cables
- Small shovel
- First aid kit
- Water
- Nonperishable food
Plus anything your crew needs: medications, baby supplies, pet food. PennDOT’s checklist (PDF)
On the road
Drive it the way PennDOT says
- Keep your gas tank at least half full.
- Slow down and leave extra following distance; avoid sudden stops and starts.
- Watch for roads that look wet but are frozen, especially on bridges and ramps.
- Don’t use cruise control on snow-covered roads.
- Clear snow and ice off the windows, lights, hood and roof before you go.
Flying in
Two airports, and one honest note about rideshare
Either way, you’ll want a car for the last leg. The house is on a mountain, and the closest towns are small.
The main gateway
Pittsburgh International (PIT)
76 mi · about 1 hr 50 min to the house
The big airport for the region, served by American, Delta, Southwest, United, JetBlue and others. From there it’s the Turnpike east to Exit 91.
- Eight rental car brands: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Sixt
- Rental counters are in the covered walkway between the Terminal Garage and the terminal
The small one, closer
Arnold Palmer Regional (LBE), Latrobe
27 mi · about 55 min to the house
Much closer, but small. As of late October 2026, its flights page lists Breeze Airways nonstops from Myrtle Beach starting in February 2027 and Orlando starting in May 2027. Check what’s flying for your dates.
- Avis, Budget, Enterprise and Hertz have counters in the terminal
- The drive in is local roads and PA 130 to PA 711, then up County Line Road
Rideshare reality
Uber and Lyft: don’t build the trip around them
Both pick up at PIT (across the road from Door 7), but the house is a 76-mile ride into the rural Laurel Highlands. We can’t promise an app will find you a driver for that trip, or for the ride back down. The resort’s own Getting Here page gives driving directions only. The dependable plan is a rental car. If you’d rather not drive, book a car service ahead from PIT’s vehicles-for-hire directory.

Arriving at Mt. Villas
Park at the house, and you’re done driving
Mountain Haven is in Mt. Villas, on the Seven Springs resort property. The resort describes the Mountain Villas as “a short shuttle away from the slopes.” Your exact address, check-in time and door code all arrive with your booking confirmation.
- Parking right at the house
- Self check-in: no front desk, no key handoff to coordinate
- A boot- and shoe-drying area for wet gear
- The free resort shuttle stops at Mt. Villas
Getting around once you’re here
Leave the car parked
Mountain Haven isn’t ski-in/ski-out. The lifts are a free shuttle ride away, or a few minutes’ drive if you’d rather take your own car.
The easy way
Ride the free resort shuttle
The shuttle stops at Mt. Villas and runs to the base area, Main Lodge and snow tubing park. Times change with the season, so grab the current schedule when you arrive.
If you’d rather drive
The day lots are free
The North, Northeast and East lots are free, with shuttle service to the base area. The Blitzen Lot is preferred parking at $30 a day on Fridays through Sundays and peak days. When a lot fills, parking staff send you to overflow.
Bring a card
The resort is cashless
Every resort-owned outlet, from lift tickets to lunch, is card only, and not every register takes Apple or Google Pay. Bring a credit or debit card.
Skis staying overnight?
Use the house, or the Ski Check
There’s room at the house to stash skis and boards. If you’d rather leave them on the hill, the resort runs overnight storage at the Ski Check, second level of the Ski Lodge.
Groceries on the way
Stock the kitchen before the climb
Everything here is on, or just off, the two routes in, so you can arrive with the fridge stocked and skip a second trip down the mountain.
Coming in from Exit 91
Coming in from Exit 110
Drive times on the cards are from the resort. Store hours change; check before you go.

Good to know
Getting here, answered
How far is Seven Springs from Pittsburgh?+
About 59 miles from downtown Pittsburgh to Mountain Haven, or roughly an hour and a half door to door in typical conditions: I-376 east to the Pennsylvania Turnpike, east to Exit 91 (Donegal), then Routes 711/31 to Champion and up County Line Road. The resort calls it about an hour from Pittsburgh; the climb at the end is the slow part, so leave extra time when it’s snowing.
Which Turnpike exit do I take for Seven Springs?+
Coming from the west (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus), take Exit 91, Donegal. Coming from the east (Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Washington, Baltimore), take Exit 110, Somerset, then Route 31 West. In winter, if you’re coming from Somerset, stay on County Line Road and avoid Pritts Distillery Road, which the resort says doesn’t get winter maintenance.
Do I need 4-wheel drive to get to Seven Springs in winter?+
No, there’s no requirement. But the last eight miles climb about 1,000 feet, and the ridge gets far more snow than the valley. During or right after a storm, AWD or 4WD on good tires is the easiest way up, and winter tires matter more than drivetrain for stopping and turning. In a front-wheel-drive car on all-season tires, check 511PA and wait for the plows.
Does the Pennsylvania Turnpike take cash?+
Not at the toll points. The Turnpike tolls electronically: with E-ZPass you pay as you go, and without it Toll By Plate cameras read your plate and the registered owner is invoiced about 40 days later. E-ZPass saves nearly 50% compared with Toll By Plate. In a rental car, ask the rental company how it bills tolls.
What is the closest airport to Seven Springs?+
Arnold Palmer Regional in Latrobe is closest, about 27 miles and 55 minutes from the house, but it’s small: as of late October 2026 its flights page lists Breeze Airways service from Myrtle Beach starting February 2027 and Orlando starting May 2027. Pittsburgh International, about 76 miles and an hour and 50 minutes away, has far more flights and eight rental car brands, so it’s the practical choice for most trips.
Can I take an Uber or Lyft to Seven Springs?+
We wouldn’t count on it. Uber and Lyft both pick up at Pittsburgh International, but the house is a long ride into the rural Laurel Highlands, and we can’t promise you’ll find a driver for the trip up or for the ride back down. Plan on a rental car, or book a car service in advance.
Is there a shuttle from Mt. Villas to the slopes?+
Yes. The free resort shuttle stops at Mt. Villas and runs to the base area, the Main Lodge and the snow tubing park. Shuttle times vary by season, so pick up the current schedule when you arrive. If you’d rather drive, the resort’s North, Northeast and East day lots are free, with shuttle service to the base.
Where should we buy groceries on the way to Seven Springs?+
From Exit 91, Sarnelli’s Market sits right on the route in Jones Mills (deli, groceries, beer and wine), and there’s a Sheetz by the Donegal interchange for gas and snacks. From Exit 110, Somerset has a Giant Eagle, a Walmart Supercenter and a Fine Wine & Good Spirits. Highlands Market, less than a mile from the resort’s Main Gate on County Line Road, is the closest stop for whatever you forgot.
