When to go

Seven Springs, season by season

Seven Springs is two different trips: a ski resort from December to mid-March, and a mountain summer and fall resort the rest of the year. Here’s how the calendar plays, with weather from NOAA’s 30-year normals for Laurel Summit, a weather station on the same ridge.

September–November

Fall color, then a quiet November

Peak color early–mid October · November 46° / 29°, ~8 in. of snow

Autumnfest weekends at the resort and peak Laurel Highlands color land in early-to-mid October, with Halloween weekends nearby at the end of the month. November is the calm before ski season: cold nights, the first snow on the ridge, and Thanksgiving with everyone under one roof. The lifts aren’t running yet.

December

Opening weeks and Christmas

Avg 35° / 20° · ~27 in. of snow

Seven Springs lists Friday, Dec. 4 as its first day on the slopes for 2026–27, weather permitting (last season the lifts opened Dec. 6). Opening day always depends on cold nights for snowmaking. The weeks before Christmas are the quiet stretch; Christmas week is the big one.

March

Spring skiing

Avg 43° / 23° · ~21 in. of snow

Firm mornings, soft afternoons and longer days. Seven Springs typically skis into mid-March (OnTheSnow projects a Mar. 14 close), the Pond Skim traditionally marks the closing weekend, and Somerset County’s sugar camps open for Maple Weekends on Mar. 6–7 and 13–14, 2027.

April–August

Spring and summer on the mountain

Community pool by the house: Memorial Day–Labor Day

The resort turns into a summer playground: the 1,980-foot Alpine Slide, scenic chairlift rides and lake paddling on the All-Day Adventure Pass, the Highlands golf course, and Ohiopyle’s waterfalls and whitewater about 30 minutes away.

How long to stay

A weekend, or Sunday to Thursday?

The drive up is the same either way. What changes is how much mountain you get for it, and what you pay per night.

Fri–Sun · 2 nights

The weekend

The classic, and the minimum here. In winter, a Friday arrival usually means the climb after dark, so leave early when snow is in the forecast.

Thu–Sun or Fri–Mon · 3 nights

The long weekend

One more night buys a full, unhurried day on the mountain between the two drives. Thursday check-ins need three nights.

Sun–Thu · 4 nights

Sunday to Thursday

Weeknight rates at Mountain Haven often run around half the weekend’s, lift lines are shorter, and Epic’s Northeast Midweek Pass covers Monday–Friday all season (peak dates included) at Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain.

See open midweek ski weeks

Wed–Sun · 4 nights

The holiday week

Our Thanksgiving and Christmas windows run Wednesday to Sunday: four nights, with the holiday in the middle.

Christmas on the mountain

Mountain Haven’s booking rules: 2-night minimum, 3 nights for Thursday check-ins, and online bookings need about two days’ notice.

Where to stay at Seven Springs

Hotel, ski-in townhome, condo or a whole house

There’s no single best place to stay at Seven Springs. It depends on how many of you there are and how close to the lifts you need to sleep. Here are the four broad options on the resort property, described from the resort’s own listings, with the trade-offs as we see them.

At the base

The resort hotel

Slopeside Hotel (the Main Lodge Hotel)

The resort describes its hotel as at the base of the slopes and connected to the Main Lodge. Hotel guests get the indoor pool year-round and attended overnight ski storage in the hotel.

Best for
Couples and small families who want to walk out to the lifts with the lodge close at hand.
Think about
A big group books several rooms and gathers in the lodge rather than its own living room.
Resort lodging

Ski-in/ski-out

Slopeside townhomes

Southwind

Per the resort, Southwind’s townhomes sit on top of the mountain with a private chairlift and trail system: a true ski-in/ski-out option.

Best for
Skiers who want to click in at the door.
Think about
If ski-in/ski-out is a must-have, this is where to look. Mountain Haven isn’t ski-in/ski-out.
Resort lodging

On the shuttle

Condos, villas and chalets

Mountain Villas, Swiss Mountain, The Villages, Classic and Tyrol Chalets

Around the resort: the Mountain Villas are “a short shuttle away from the slopes,” Swiss Mountain is “a few minutes from the slopes by shuttle,” and the historic Tyrol House holds four chalets. Sizes vary unit by unit.

Best for
Families and small groups who want a kitchen and a door of their own.
Think about
Check the bedroom count and the location. The resort’s lodging search filters by ski-in/ski-out, a 5–10 minute walk, on the shuttle route, or drive to the lift.
Resort lodging

A whole house

Mountain Haven

A privately owned home in Mt. Villas

3 bedrooms + a den + a bunk loft, 3 full + 2 half baths, sleeps 16+, a private hot tub on the deck and a full kitchen, on the resort with the free shuttle stopping at Mt. Villas.

Best for
Groups that want to stay together: ski crews, reunions, two or three families.
Think about
It isn’t ski-in/ski-out (it’s the shuttle or a short drive), and the resort’s indoor pool is for hotel guests and all-day wristband holders. The community pool by the house is summer-only.

Why groups pick a whole house

One kitchen, one hot tub, everyone under one roof

For eight or more people, a house changes the trip: one place to cook breakfast, one living room for the après hours, and everyone a staircase away. Mountain Haven is on the resort property at Mt. Villas, and the free resort shuttle runs to the slopes, the Main Lodge, the spa and resort dining.

  • Sleeps 16+: two king bedrooms, a room with two doubles, a den with a sleeper sofa, and a bunk loft that sleeps six
  • Private hot tub on the deck, open year-round
  • Boot- and shoe-drying area, plus a washer and dryer for wet layers
  • A full kitchen stocked with cookware and dishes for 16+

Book ahead

What to lock in before you go

Lift tickets are limited each day, tubing capacity is limited, and rentals and lessons cost less or go faster when booked ahead. Lock these in once your dates are set.

As soon as your dates are set

Lift tickets or a pass

Seven Springs limits lift tickets each day and popular days sell out. Buying online in advance saves up to 10% versus the peak window price, and unused days are refundable. Epic Passes, including the 1-to-7-day Epic Day Pass, come off sale in early December (last season’s cutoff was Dec. 4).

A week or more out

Rentals and lessons

Rossignol and Burton gear; booking ahead saves up to $11 off the walk-up rate and cuts the time in line. Minors need a parent or guardian’s signature, in person or on a pre-signed release. Group lessons run for ages 3–6, 7–15 and 16+, and the resort’s advice is plain: book in advance.

Before a weekend night

A dinner out

Helen’s, the resort’s fine-dining room, recommends reservations (online or by phone) and was listed as open Wednesday–Sunday, 5–9 p.m. in late October 2026. Down in Donegal, Out of the Fire Cafe is BYOB and recommends reservations for dinner.

Packing

What to bring for a winter trip

The ridge runs colder and snowier than the towns below it. Pack for that, and for the hot tub.

Layers, not one big coat

A base layer, a fleece or puffy, and a waterproof shell. December highs average in the mid-30s on the ridge, and the summit wind makes it feel colder.

Boots with real grip

Waterproof, insulated and treaded for walkways, parking lots and the shuttle stop. Packed snow is slick.

A swimsuit

Mountain Haven’s private hot tub runs all winter. Bring slippers for the dash across the deck and a warm hat for soaking while it snows.

Goggles, sunscreen, lip balm

Snow throws sunlight back at you, even on cloudy days.

A card, not cash

The resort is cashless everywhere it operates, from lift tickets to lunch, and not every register takes phone wallets.

A car kit

Ice scraper, small shovel, blanket, phone charger and the rest of PennDOT’s winter list.

What you can leave at home: linens and towels, hair dryers, a Pack ’n Play and high chair, and board games. The house has them.

The first 24 hours

From the night before to first chair

A checklist for a winter arrival, in order.

  1. 1

    The night before

    Buy, check, download

Buy lift tickets and tubing sessions online (both are limited each day), check the NWS forecast and 511PA, and put the 511PA app on the driver’s phone.

  2. 2

    On the way up

Fill the tank and the fridge

Gas at the Sheetz by Exit 91; groceries, beer and wine at Sarnelli’s in Jones Mills or Highlands Market near the Main Gate (open until 6 p.m. Sunday–Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday–Saturday).

  3. 3

    Arrival

    Park and let yourself in

Park at the house and use the door code from your confirmation. No front desk, no key pickup.

  4. 4

    First hour

    Set up for the morning

Find the boot-drying area, stash skis and boards, and grab the current shuttle schedule (times change with the season).

  5. 5

    Dinner

Cook in, or ride to dinner

The kitchen is stocked with cookware and dishes for 16+, or take the free shuttle to resort dining. Helen’s recommends reservations.

  6. 6

    Before bed

    Check tomorrow, then soak

Look at tomorrow’s lift and terrain status and the snow report, lay out layers, then the hot tub.

  7. 7

    First morning

    Shuttle to the base

Breakfast in, then the free shuttle from Mt. Villas to the base area. Bring a card: the resort is cashless.

Good to know

Planning questions, answered

When is the best time to visit Seven Springs?+

It depends on the trip. For skiing, December through mid-March, with January and February the coldest and snowiest months and early-March bringing spring conditions. For fall color, early-to-mid October. For summer activities like the Alpine Slide and the community pool, Memorial Day through Labor Day. If you can travel midweek, Sunday-to-Thursday stays get you shorter lift lines and lower rates.

When does the 2026–27 ski season at Seven Springs start and end?+

Seven Springs lists Friday, Dec. 4, 2026 as its first day on the slopes, weather permitting, and OnTheSnow projects a Mar. 14, 2027 close. Opening day depends on cold nights for snowmaking, and last season the resort opened Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025. Check live lift and terrain status before you drive up.

How many nights should we plan for a Seven Springs trip?+

Two nights is a classic weekend and the minimum at Mountain Haven. Three nights buys a full, unhurried day on the mountain. A Sunday-to-Thursday stay is the best value: weeknight rates here often run around half the weekend rate, and lift lines are shorter. Thursday check-ins need three nights.

Where should a large group stay at Seven Springs?+

For eight or more people, a whole house or a large townhome keeps everyone under one roof: one kitchen, one living room, one place to regroup. Mountain Haven sleeps 16+ across 3 bedrooms, a den and a bunk loft, with 3 full and 2 half baths and a private hot tub. If ski-in/ski-out matters most, look at the resort’s Southwind townhomes instead.

Is Mountain Haven ski-in/ski-out?+

No. Mountain Haven is on the resort property at Mt. Villas, but not on a trail. The free resort shuttle stops at Mt. Villas and runs to the base area, Main Lodge and snow tubing park, or it’s a few minutes’ drive to the free day lots.

Do we need to buy Seven Springs lift tickets in advance?+

Yes, if you can. Seven Springs limits lift tickets each day and popular days sell out. Buying online in advance saves up to 10% versus the peak window price, and unused days are refundable. Snow tubing capacity is limited too, so buy sessions online ahead; tubing isn’t included with the Epic Pass.

Can rental guests use the pool at Seven Springs?+

The resort’s indoor pool is open year-round to hotel guests and to guests who buy an all-day activity wristband. Mountain Haven guests can walk to the community pool near the house from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and the house’s private hot tub is open all year.

Is Seven Springs cashless?+

Yes. Every resort-owned outlet, including the hotel, restaurants, lift tickets and lessons, is cashless, and not every register takes Apple Pay or Google Pay, so bring a credit or debit card.

Is this guide run by Seven Springs?+

No. Mountain Haven is a privately owned vacation home on the resort property, and this guide is ours. It is not affiliated with Seven Springs Mountain Resort or Vail Resorts. For official information, the resort’s own site is 7springs.com.
